Revenge of Spartan

This is in response to my previous post about Havaianas slippers.

While I may seem to be someone with colonial mentality, I also recognize the fact that Philippines has its very own version of a durable slipper in the ‘person’ of Spartans. Compared to Havaianas' expensive price which range from Php 800 to Php 1300, these slippers can be bought for as low as Php 20!

Okay, it may not be as fashionable and as design-filled like Havaianas, but these slippers are perfect for those going to the markets. Surely you don’t want to cross your expensive brand on the wet streets of Cogon Market, right?

So what can Spartan say to Havaianas?

H-Spot

Since its introduction in the Philippines in late 2000s, Havaianas slippers have truly captured the hearts of the Filipinos. I must admit I was one of those giddy to get my feet on those ‘precious and expensive’ slippers.

Late it may seem but last week, I finally had my very own pair of that ‘most coveted’ rubber. Okay, call me shallow and unreasonable, but it’s just me to get super excited when getting hold of something I think fashionable.

My mom kept nagging me for buying such an expensive pair of a slipper, but heck, am happy and I guess that what matters most.

Anyway, what makes this brand so special?

Havaianas originated from Brazil; it was designed, marketed and manufactured by Sao Paulo Alpargatas S.A. showcasing its soft-as-marshmallow and highly durable features. What makes it more appealing is that it’s got designs and prints that truly captivate the tastes of various people.

Thready Brows

It was the other day when my sister came from an eyebrow threading. She was raving about it. And honestly, I wanted to have one, too. Although I’m a bit hesitant of the so-called ‘pain.’

So what is eyebrow threading?

The history of eyebrow threading started way back in the Middle East, India, and China. It is a hair removal technique that utilizes cotton thread. Some say that the technique is more precise than waxing as well as less painful.

Unlike razors, eyebrow threading lasts for 2-3 weeks, so it definitely saves time and some cash.

Well beauty expensive, but if you haven’t tried plucking your brows yet, I suggest you leave it as it is.

7 Tips for Choosing Blings

Writing for Celebrity Fashion Watch for quite some time now, I realized that celebs look fab not only with the clothes they wear, but also with the accessories they put on.

Blings, chosen correctly will definitely turn a boring groove in to one glamorous outfit!

Shiela Dick, an image and wardrobe consultant presents these 7 tips for choosing accessories to add glitters to your wardrobe.

1. Choose accessories to match the outfit, not an outfit to match your accessories. Before you purchase accessories know what outfit they will go with and how you will wear them.

2. Accessories should be in balance with the weight of your clothing. For instance, if you are wearing a skirt or suit in a heavy fabric don’t wear sandals.

3. Rings are great, but wearing too many at one time will look gaudy. For business, wear only one ring on each hand. Also, if your rings have become too tight they will create an unflattering look. Getting them off and stretched to fit your finger would be a good idea.

4. Wear earrings that flatter your face shape. If you have a long face, avoid long dangling earrings. The long lines of the earrings will make the face appear longer. That style is better for those who will look better with the added length to their face.

5. Eyeglasses are considered an accessory. When you wear glasses limit the accessories around your face to two.

6. Match your earrings to the style of clothes you are wearing. Pearl earrings are best worn with a dressy outfit and flashy, ornate earrings are best kept for festive, party events.

7. Shoes are a great accessory and can really make a difference to the look of an outfit. Leopard prints and shoes with designs may be difficult to fit into a wardrobe and are usually a passing trend. Wear them with an outfit that picks up one of the colors in the shoes and keep other accessories to a minimum.

And remember, everything that's too much is never good.
